Today, we'll be looking at just how Agent 47 was created for my first single in six simple steps. I used Corel Painter and Picasa to make the piece and the tablet I used was a Wacom Bamboo Fun tablet. This piece took me about two and a half hours.
First I lay down a rough sketch. Here
I just focus on the anatomy and the placement of Agent 47's features. I also
add any shadows that will be fully black as this will come in handy during the
inking stage. In this stage it is also important to build the background so
that all the main aspects of the composition are there and I won't have to
second guess my thoughts later on.

Step Two |
This stage is where I begin to make
sure the picture is more detailed and precise. I get a simple black brush and just go around any
areas that will be completely black. I make sure there are no obvious
pixelations so that the image has a smoother feel to it.
 |
Step Three |
Now I add my primary colours to Agent
47. The flats that I have here will help when I create any variations to the
same colour and add any lighting. Notice how I haven't added the background
colours just yet. That is because at this point I am focussed on making the
centrepiece as accurate as possible. If at this stage I don't like how it is
turning out I'll scrap it and start it again, but I like how this Hitman piece
is turning out.

Step Four |
Having worked on Agent 47's colours I
now focus solely on the background. I add a gradient to the entire background
to give the sense of lighting and then I add red flats to the door and greens
to the fire exit sign. I then change the opacity and colour slightly and build
on top of the flats. Now the piece is really starting to take shape!
 |
Step Five |
My final step is to add final
gradients and lighting to... Agent 47! I use a similar process as the
background, but this time I'll use blur effects and lighting options to really
get the art piece to turn out how I want it. At this point you can call it a
day or go on to one more step...
 |
Step Six |
...FINAL EDITING. Here I go out of
Corel Painter 12 and to a simple image editing programme called Picasa. It's
free and does what I want it to, but if you want to really get serious about
editing photos you might want to try another programme. All I do now is tweak
the lighting, highlights and darkness to make the image come to life. I finally
add an effect called film grain so that when zoomed in you see a level of
quality that wouldn't be there otherwise.
That's it! Six simple steps and
you've created Agent 47 from the acclaimed Hitman series. This piece took me
about two and a half hours and I am pleased with the results. Thank you for
reading this tutorial and I hope you learned more about my process.
